FTP gives you the ability to transfer files to and from your web space.

To do this you will need an FTP Client, which if you don’t have one you can download the popular FTP Bullet Proof from www.bpftp.com.
There are many other FTP programs that run in the same way.

Firstly open your FTP program, but before we do anything else you will need to disable passive mode as all other ports from RocketUK.net / Midland Computers have been disabled.

To disable passive mode in Bullet Proof FTP click on options in the menu bar and then choose general options.

Next click on the Firewall tab and then the FTP tab. At the bottom of the window uncheck the use passive box and click ok.

For the next part you will need your user login and password, which was supplied with setup documentation. At the top of the FTP window you will see three text boxes, Host, Login and Pass.

In the host text box enter your domain name e.g. www.yourdomain.com, next enter your user login in the login box and your password in the pass box.

Now you will need to connect to the FTP server by clicking on the button that looks like the button shown here:

Once connected, you will need to locate your files that you wish to down/upload. To locate them click on the browse button, click on the folder where your files are being stored and click ok. You might have to wait a couple of seconds before you actually see your files.

Before you do any uploading or downloading you may want to backup your files just in case you overwrite a file by mistake.

Uploading Files
There are two windows, one on the left with your local files in (your PC ) and one on the right with a public_html folder in (the server). If you do not have public_html do not worry. If you do have the public_html folder then double click it. Next select the files from the left window that you wish to upload and drag them into the right window. Now click the Go button and wait for your local files to upload.

Downloading Files
Downloading files is just the same as uploading files but the opposite way round. Select your files from the right window (the server), drag them across into the left window (your PC), click Go and wait for your files to download.
