RocketUK.net Leased Lines
Who should consider installing a Leased Line?
If your business has outgrown broadband or ISDN connections, you need a leased line. The examples below are common business problems best solved with a leased line solution.

QuotesWe have 20 or more staff accessing the internet simultaneously, and access is often quite slow.Quotes
QuotesWe need to transfer large amounts of data over the Internet regularly.Quotes
QuotesWe need to host our webserver or mailserver at our offices, but allow access to Internet users.Quotes
QuotesOur ISDN connection is costing us a fortune in call charges.Quotes
QuotesWe have several broadband connections to our offices, but we really need to coordinate monitoring, firewalling and virus checking across all connections to the Internet from our LAN.Quotes

What is a Leased Line?
Leased Lines are permanent connections made between 2 locations. In effect it is a telephone line that is open all of the time, but rather than paying for it by the minute and second as you would for your normal telephone or ISDN connection, a Leased Line is rented by the month or year.

Leased lines are a robust, stable and faster way to transfer data between locations.

Although ADSL lines offer high speed data transfer, there are a few draw backs when used for business purposes compared to a dedicated leased line. For example you can only UPLOAD data at a maximum of 256kbps. If you were to link two offices via two 2Mbps ADSL lines, you would only have a maximum of 256kbps to transfer between them.

ADSL connections are shared between a number of people on the same BT phone exchange. (Currently each business ADSL is shared between 20 people).

This means that potentially 20 other companies could be sharing your ADSL maximum speed. A leased line is simply your own, and not shared.

There is also no Service Level Agreement available from BT to cover an ADSL line connection. This means that if it was to fail then BT do not guarantee a repair time. Leased lines have a guaranteed repair time in the event of failure.
